Als Reaktion darauf startet Osea einen Großangriff auf Farbanti, die Hauptstadt von Erusea, was zu massiven Verlusten unter der Zivilbevölkerung führt.

    Der Hauptprotagonist der Story-Kampagne Skies Unknown ist Trigger, ein Pilot der Osean Air Force. Ihm wurde ein Mord angehängt und er wurde in die Strafstaffel versetzt. Obwohl der Spieler als Oseanischer Militär beginnt, bevorzugt das Spiel keine Seite in diesem Konflikt. Rosa Cossette D'Elise, eine Prinzessin und Thronfolgerin von Erusea, spielt ebenfalls eine wichtige Rolle in der Handlung.

    Der Spieler steuert Triggers Kampfflugzeug, den F-22A Raptor, und absolviert verschiedene Missionen gegen feindliche Kampfjets.     Almost half a century later, the same substance resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe.

    Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themself in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.
